Available Tax Credits

Available Federal, Local, and Utility Energy Efficiency Incentives

2026 update: The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) and the Residential Clean Energy Credit (Section 25D) expired on December 31, 2025. HVAC equipment placed in service in 2026 does not qualify for these federal tax credits. If your qualifying system was installed and placed in service on or before December 31, 2025, you may still be able to claim it on your 2025 federal return.

Available federal, state, local, and utility incentives can reduce the net cost of qualifying HVAC improvements. J&J Sheet Metal of Michigan helps you review current programs, confirm what your planned project may require, and provide the documentation commonly requested by program administrators. Eligibility, amounts, and deadlines are set by the program and can change at any time.

Check eligibility for federal tax credits (2025) by using the “Check Eligibility” link on this page to see whether your improvements may qualify.

How to claim a qualifying federal tax credit (2025):

State, local, and utility incentives:

Use the “Energy Savings” resource on this page. Enter your ZIP code or select your state to view additional incentives and potential energy savings that may apply where you live. Each program publishes its own rules, required documents, and timelines. With federal tax credits no longer available for 2026 installations, utility programs are now the main source of savings. See our HVAC rebates page, and ask about financing for the rest of the cost.

What J and J can provide for your application:

  • A fully itemized invoice clearly showing all equipment, corresponding model numbers, and the exact date of installation.
  • The necessary contractor information, along with all relevant details confirming job completion.
  • Any supplementary documentation requested by the specific rebate or financing program (provided when applicable).
